GREENWAY CENTURY

GREENWAY CENTURY

Push your cycling skills to the next level with this advanced, 100-mile route on some of the most beautiful greenways in New York City. This ride guide is a culmination of many of our other routes —it's a true adventure that will take you to every corner of our diverse city. You'll enjoy waterfront views, beaches, forested trail ways and long stretches of car-free riding. You can navigate to starting points in Brooklyn, Manhattan or Staten Island, so you can choose to make this a four- or five-borough tour depending on your goals and accessibility. Live off the route? Start at the closest point and adjust your GPS accordingly. If the route feels overwhelming at any point, simply hop on the nearest ferry or subway to make your way home. Click on the individual segments on the map for detailed points of interest, food and drinks, and detours along the journey, and stop into any Trek Bicycle store for rest stops around the course. Click here for more tips!

TIPS

CENTURY RIDE TIPS

  1. Expect to drink 20-25 oz of water per hour (alternating with sports drinks); public water fountains can typically be found near playgrounds and beaches.

  2. Don't forget self care with sunscreen, allergy medicine, moist toilettes and comfortable shoes.

  3. Bring snacks! You'll want to eat something every 2 hours. We recommend dried fruit, trail mix, bananas, PB&J sandwich, Cliff bars or fig cookies.

  4. Anticipate to be in the saddle for 7-10 hours, plus breaks.

  5. Take photos and have fun! Whether you go alone or with a group, don't forget to document the adventure.

  6. Take advantage of the subway and ferries if you can't finish the ride or want to cut down on the mileage.

  7. Got a flat? If a repair kit or bike shop isn't available to you, there are a few mobile repair companies (but you may be better off taking a Lyft/Uber or prearranging an emergency ride from a friend).

  8. Make sure your gear is in good condition, tuned up and comfortable. A century ride is not the time to test new clothing or ride with old tires.

  9. Bring a backup charge pack for your phone!
